About the Uncharted series and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is the first part in the Uncharted series, a TPS third-person shooter action-adventure game produced by Naughty and published by Sony for the PlayStation. This series of games is so successful that it is considered the standard of development for single-player games later. It is even being evaluated as more attractive and open than typical Hollywood works of the same genre such as Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider.
In this first part, you will learn important information: Nathan “Nate” Drake is no ordinary treasure hunter but a descendant of the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake. At the beginning of the game is a scene where Nate was with journalist Elena Fisher floating on a ship after having just picked up a coffin. This was the legacy of Sir Francis Drake which had been rumored to have been buried under the sea 400 years ago with Drake’s hint to a huge treasure. Opening the lid of the coffin, Nate, although not found the body, did find something: Sir Francis Drake’s diary, and it seemed true that there are some clues to the lost treasure El Dorado in South America.
At that moment, the pirates led by Eddy Raja appeared and relentlessly pursued the two. They are also of the few people who know about the Diary and its strange connection to the huge treasure. In that critical situation, Fisher called Victor “Sully” Sullivan, a teacher and like a father, to rescue both. And at the climax when they thought they would die, both were promptly rescued by Sully by a seaplane.
Arriving safely, Nate and Sully discovered information about the El Dorado treasure, but the two most important pages marking its location were torn away. To start the journey in silence and also wanted to be safer for Elena, Nate and Sully decided to board another ship to go.
El Dorado is actually not a city of gold, but just a huge treasure trove of golden statues. Following several tracks, at an abandoned ship on the Amazon River, Nate found two missing pages of the diary, a dead crew, and a map of the southern tropical island highlighted in red, which may contain El Dorado. At that time, Sully was captured by a group of mercenaries of Gabriel Roman and Atoq Navarro. They are Sully’s creditors and also a group of people pursuing the secret of this lost treasure. Nate must give them the map but secretly kept a more important one. Sully was injured.
During the chaos, Nate and Sully escaped into the nearby forest. Sully stayed behind because the wound was quite severe. And Nate continued on the journey and reunited with Elena after she tracked them down. Nate and Elena then continued the adventure. The two have overcome many obstacles together, many times escaping the hunt of both pirates and brutal mercenaries. And finally, they met the giant golden statue of El Dorado with a terrible secret behind its formation and wandering.
Shooting phases are so great
In Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, you’ll witness what a real-life hero is like. Nate, with his skillful shooting skills with no failure, can own dozens of weapons from which he can choose one for each battle. But the way to destroy enemies in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is quite stealthy because only you fight with the opponents who are always in a group from quite large to large with a great shooting ability. So, your mission throughout the game will be to find cover when seeing each enemy, snip them one by one… until all enemies are dead, or withdraw.
There is also a note that in each battle, Nate can only use up to 2 types of guns at the same time (one in each hand. So, you need to choose them carefully depending on the terrain and the number of enemies. Besides, Nate can also run, swim, jump, walk, wriggle, dodge bullets, acrobatics, grab objects, and swing ropes. Depending on the situation, you will need to choose the suitable one in this wide range of skills.
Memorable puzzle missions
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is a standard third-person shooter game, literally a monument for the next generation to follow. Most of the time in the game is spent shooting between characters. The remaining part, which creates a reasonable break and helps players regain balance after continuous shooting phases, is the small puzzle pieces.
In these “relaxed episodes”, Nate will have to find ways to overcome obstacles, climb, solve puzzles, find clues by connecting several items together. Not too much and not too difficult, but enough to make the adventure you are playing become much more poetic and profound. The character is thereby proved to have strength, skill, and brain.
A game full of cinematic quality
You will sometimes be confused because you do not know whether you are playing a game or watching a movie. The cutscenes mixed with puzzles and story-telling will take you on an adventure that’s spotless. An example is the first scene when Nate and Elena battled the pirates on the ship, and after that scene is the scene of chasing each other on the Amazon river… With a game launched in 2007, all those things are too cool.
